Wind resource assessment is of vital relevance in the correct and successful development of wind farms.
The feasibility of a site begins with the analysis of the resource and associated generation, but not only. Its physical modeling with the correct micrositing, taking into account environmental constraints and current legislation, technology selection and production evaluation including curtailments, constraints and uncertainties complete the characterization of the wind farm.
For any point in the area of interest, average wind speed and wind rose, annual and daily profiles, as well as energy production are available. We can provide historical time series of wind speed and direction. These ‘virtual masts’ are a very useful tool to reduce uncertainty in the estimation of energy production with the MCP method. The series refer to a period of up to 30 years and are tower point centered with a resolution of 3 km. The maps and virtual towers are obtained by processing historical meteorological data with the WRF (Weather Research and Forecast) model. Numerical simulations are carried out with our supercomputer cluster.
In the same way, these studies are applicable to solar plants or hybrid systems with the appropriate technical adjustment for each renewable technology.
